Don't we all wish for full, shiny hair? I believe that all women (and girls) long for a silky mane that glows with health.
A few years ago I began my going gray process. I really wanted to avoid cutting off too many inches of hair while growing my old color out. But just as importantly, I wanted my hair to look and feel full and healthy.
Going gray was already a HUGE change. Going short was just not an option for me. So I was seriously committed to finding the best products to keep my wavy, highlighted shoulder-length hair as healthy as humanely possible.
I discovered these John Masters products after discarding two shampoos (one from a fancy Beverly Hills salon, $40, and one from Whole Foods) that unfortunately, did little for my hair's appearance.
Truth be told, my hair had bigger issues than just chemical processing. It seemed to become both thinner and flatter over the past few years. Thinning hair is common for women over age forty.
So, I wanted a shampoo that would smooth but also add body. Finally, I was hoping for a deep conditioner that would make my hair feel smooth and soft.
The staff at Co-opportunity Santa Monica raved about John Masters Organics.
Since the Co-op staff rarely steer me wrong, I decided to try the John Masters Organics' Citrus & Neroli Detangler. It smelled delicious and smoothed my hair nicely. I used it mostly as a lightweight leave-in conditioner and was thrilled to learn it is free of parabens, sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) and silicones.
Silicones are in many conditioners. While they do smooth the hair, they also leave a plastic like coating that eventually requires a clarifying shampoo to remove it. Thus the vicious cycle of over washing often with products containing sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) , which then leads to the need to smooth damaged hair again.
Since the detangler was a winner, I decided it was time to try their other products.
According to the company website, Scalp Stimulating Shampoo deeply cleanses and moisturizes hair for a frizz-free look all day long. This shampoo is ideal for both color-treated hair or fine or curly hair types.
This is absolutely true, at least for my fine, dry hair. After one use, my hair literally felt softer and lighter, almost as if it was not highly processed, colored hair. It was also dramatically smoother. Once dry I noticed it was fuller with an almost “fluffy” feeling.
Many natural shampoos don't lather, but this one does lather up nicely and smells amazing! Key ingredients include aloe vera, jojoba and pantheon. I love this shampoo and would never be without it.
I've tried much pricier conditioners and masks over the past few years, but none performs as well as Lavender & Avocado Intensive Conditioner. It smells fresh and earthy, with a strong lavender scent. It includes avocado oil, which is an excellent moisturizer.
After twice a week use for about a month, this conditioner dramatically improved my hair's texture. Bonus points for being luxuriously rich without weighing my hair down.
Both of these products are available in travel sizes, making them easy to try out. Be sure to take them along on vacations or holiday trips!
